To provide a community where vacationers, vacation rental owners, vacation rental professionals and suppliers can chit-chat, share ideas and opinions about anything and everything related to vacation rentals. This site is designed so you can quickly locate information, find other knowledgeable users and participate in conversations.

User Agreement. Among other things, you may not include photographs containing nudity, or obscene, lewd, excessively violent, harassing, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable subject matter.
Email us at optout@vacationrentalscommunity.com with "remove" in the subject heading. Please include either your sign-in name or the email address you signed up with and we will remove your profile within 48 hours.

Registration & Sign In
Anyone can browse the forums, blogs and other resources. You are required to register in order to post or reply to messages. You must also register to access your Profile.
To login to the forums, click on "Sign In" on the top right of the page. From there you enter your username and password. If you would like to be automatically logged into the Vacation Rentals Community when you visit, click on the checkbox "Automatically log me in". (Note: You must have cookies enabled for this feature. Vacation Rentals Community will encrypt your login information and store it in a cookie.)
If you forgot your username and/or password you can visit the "Forget Your Password" page and have both your username and a new password emailed to you by entering the email account you're registered with. You will be sent a new password, since we store your password encrypted and have no way of retrieving the original value. Once you receive your username and new password, you can login and change your password.
First check to ensure your username and password are correct. If you still can't login please email us at support(at)vacationrentalscommunity(dot)com.
User Profile & Settings
A profile is information about your account that controls how you view information within the Community. This includes details about messages and replies you post, personal information you wish to share (such as your web address or weblog address, as well as themes, time zone, and many other settings.) You can access your profile by clicking on your member name (username) on the top right of each page.
A signature is a message that is appended to the end of any posts you make in the forums. You can edit your signature by going to the "Signature and Bio" tab in Edit Profile.
Once logged in, go to Edit Profile, click on the "Site Options" tab and click 'no' for "Display user signatures."
An avatar is an image that is displayed along with your posts.
Once you sign in, go to your profile. Next to your name, there is a link that says click here to change your avatar. You can choose one of the avatars we supplied or upload your own image.
If you do not want your avatar to be displayed, go to the "Site Options" tab in your Edit Profile and click 'no' for "Enable user avatar."
Once logged in you can change your password by going to Edit Profile and click on the "Password" tab.
Once logged in you can change your username by going to Edit Profile and click on the "About" tab.
Once logged in, you can change your private email address by going to Edit Profile and click on the "Email" tab.
The only profile setting that is required is your private email address. This is the email address that is used when you have a forgotten your username or password. The private email address is never shared or displayed publicly. The remainder of the profile settings is optional.
You can set the option in your profile and your name will not appear in any member listings, including the listing of who is online. Go to Edit Profile and click on the "Site Options" tab, click 'no' to "Display in member list."
To view the profile for any user who has posted to the forums, click on their username wherever you see it as a link. You can also search for their username or ID using the search feature.
Navigation
Yes, you can sort threads when viewing a forum by author, replies, views, and last post. The default sort for a forum is to display the newest threads first (last post descending). To sort simply click on the "Options" button at the bottom of the screen, select your desired sort order and click 'Apply'.
From the main page of the discussion forums, type your term(s) into the search box, select which forum(s) you want to search, and click the Search icon.
RSS stands for Really Simply Syndication." RSS allows you to subscribe to a forum's posts on the Vacation Rentals Community. It helps you keep up with all your favorite weblogs by checking their RSS feeds and displaying new items from each of them.
This icon indicates the user's online status. A green icon means the user has been active recently (usually within the last 15 minutes). A red icon means the user has not recently been active. You can hover your mouse over this icon to see details about the user's past activity.
This allows you to receive an email to your private email address every time a post is made on the discussion you subscribe to.
Posting
To start a new thread, choose the appropriate forum and select "Write a New Post." Type your thread header in the subject line, type a message in the message box and assign a tag if you want. Click the "Post" button.
To post a reply to a thread, select the "Reply" icon next to the message you would like to reply to. If you want to respond to specific text from the original message, click on "Quote Original" button, and that will add the text from the original post in your message.
You can give your post a "tag", which is like a keyword. Tags help you find posts that have something in common. You can assign as many tags as you wish to each post.
Click the "Delete" button next to new posts you have made. If a post you have made has one or more replies you will be able to delete those posts by saying yes to Delete Children.
The administrator specified a word filter for posts. When word filters are enabled certain words that are deemed to be offensive are filtered and replaced with the '*' character.
Blogs
Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Blogs generally represent the personality of the author.
Once you join the Vacation Rentals Community, a blog will be instantly created for you. To find your blog click on your profile (username) and then look for the blog link in the 'Options' box on the left side of the page. You may also find your blog by clicking on the 'Blogs' tab (main header) and then clicking on the link "Blogs on this Site" on the right side of the page (If you don't see your blog listed it means that your blog has been deactivated for inactivity - to get your blog re-activated just send an email with your "username" to support(at)vacationrentalscommunity(dot)com.
The biggest advantage in getting a blog through Vacation Rentals Community is the fact that every time you publish a post to your blog it will automatically be published on the homepage of VacationRentalsCommunity.com and it will be syndicated across several vacation rental sites. There are plenty of customizable designs to choose from. No programming knowledge is needed. Joining the community and getting your own vacation rental blog is easy, quick, and completely free!
Click on the "Blogs" tab and you will find a list of bloggers by clicking on the "Opml" link on the right side of the page. Click on the post you want to view/reply to. Below the post, there is an area where you can leave a comment. You must sign in to comment on other member's blogs.
Go to your "Dashboard," click on "Write a Blog Post" and Click the checkbox for "Advanced options" in the right hand corner. Click on the "Options" tab and type in the post date you want.
You can customize the look and feel of your blog by clicking on the 'My Dashboard' link on your blog page. You must be signed in to edit your blog web page.

Images
You can post the following types of images: gif, jpg, png and bmp. The maximum size of an image is 640X480.
You can post images anywhere on the site. In Edit Profile you can post your own avatar image. You also have the ability to post pictures to create your own photo gallery.
There are 2 ways to add an image:
1. As an attachment. Image will not appear in the post itself, there will be a link to your image.
- Go to "Edit Profile," click on 'Add New Post' under My Blog.
- Check the Advanced Options box.
- You will see a 'Post Attachments' tab appear, click on it.
- Click on the 'Add/Update' button.
- You can either browse for the image you want on your computer, or provide a link to a URL from the Internet.
- Suggestion: Tell people in your post to click on the link with the image.
2. Have image appear in actual post
A. Images from the Internet
- Right click on the image and choose 'properties.' (Mac users: Hold the control button down and click on the image, then choose 'properties')
- A box will appear. In the box there is an area called 'Address [URL]' or 'Location'. Copy the 'address' in that area.
- Now go back to "Edit Profile," 'Add New Post' under My Blog.
- Once there, click on image with a picture frame on it.
- A box will appear. Paste the 'address' in the box called 'Image URL'.
- In the 'image description' box, type in what the picture is of.
- Then in the 'alignment' box, choose where you want the picture positioned in your post.
- Click the 'insert' button and there you have it.
B. Images other than the ones on the Internet
You can only add images to your blog that you have first posted in your photo gallery in "Edit Profile."
PC USERS:
- Go to the image in your gallery you want to insert into your blog. Right click on the image and choose Properties. (Mac users: Hold the control button down and click on the image, then choose 'properties')
- A box will appear. In the box there is an area called 'Address [URL]' or 'Location'. Copy the 'address' in that area.
- Now go back to "Edit Profile," 'Add New Post' under My Blog.
- Once there, click on image with a picture frame on it.
- A box will appear. Paste the 'address' in the box called 'Image URL'.
- In the 'image description' box, type in what the picture is of.
- Then in the 'alignment' box, choose where you want the picture positioned in your post.
- Click the 'insert' button and there you have it.
MAC USERS
(Sorry, if you are using Safari, you can not post images to your blog.)
- Go to the image in your gallery you want to insert into your blog.
- Click on the thumbnail image to open it.
- Click on the open image and then copy the URL (URL should end in .aspx).
- Now go back to "Edit Profile," 'Add New Post' under My Blog.
- Once there, click on image with a picture frame on it.
- A box will appear. Paste the 'address' in the box called 'Image URL'.
- In the 'image description' box, type in what the picture is of.
- Then in the 'alignment' box, choose where you want the picture positioned in your post.
- Click the 'insert' button and there you have it.

Mac Users
If you are using a Mac, we recommend using FireFox as your browser.
If you use Safari, you will need to do the following in order to post to the site:
- Once logged in, go to "Edit Profile."
- Click on the ‘Site Options’ tab.
- Change the content Editor to Plain.
The cut, copy and paste icons on the toolbars do not work on a Mac. You will need to use your keyboard:
Cut: Apple Button+X
Copy: Apple Button+C
Paste: Apple Button+V
Private Messages
A private message is an email within the Vacation Rentals Community. You can send a private message to another user that is visible only to him or her. No private information, such as the user's email address, is ever disclosed.
Go to a member's Profile (click on the member name at the top of the page). On the left of the screen under Options, click on the link that says "Send user a private message."
You have to sign in to read your private messages. Click on the "Inbox" link in the top right hand corner. You can also access your Inbox, from your blog web page - click on the link "Inbox".
